Dominican International School- Kaohsiung

It has been a beautiful day here at Camp Taiwan. Sunny and just a little cool. We met the campers at the HSR station and got them aboard the bus with no problems. It was about a 45 minute ride from there to Camp.

We go the campers settled into their tents and played a few simple name games before lunch to get everyone acquainted. Although most of the students know each other, there are a couple that are not from the Dominican School, and the counselors also need a chance to learn everyone's name.

We had a big lunch of pasta and salad, then we moved on to our afternoon activities. For those of you unfamiliar with Camp Taiwan, we have four 90-minute activity periods, plus an evening program.

This afternoon, they tried their hand at rock climbing, and then we had a period of sports. We make a point of playing sports that they will not have had a chance to play elsewhere so that everyone is starting at the same level. Today, we played pillow polo, which is sort of like field hockey, but with a big soft sponge ball and sticks with padded ends. We also played a Camp Taiwan version of capture the flag.

The kids have had a shower and are enjoying their dinner at the moment. When they are finished, we will have our evening campfire. With such a small group, it will be a little different from our usual campfire. But we will still play some fun games and sing some songs, and of course we will roast marshmallows for s'mores.
