It is another exciting day at Camp Taiwan. It rained again last night. We prepared indoor activities for today, but the weather was actually better than we expected, so we still did some things outdoors.
We started the day with the slackline. I don't know why it is called a slackline because it is actually a cargo strap pulled very tight between two poles. The kids start with some trust exercises where one camper crosses their hands across their chest and falls backwards. They have to count on their partner to prop them back up.
Trust established, they move onto the slackline. One camper stands to the side and holds up one hand, their partner climbs onto the slackline and tries to walk the length of it while holding onto their partner's hand for support.
Next, we played Frisbee golf. If you have never played, it follows the same rules as golf, but you are throwing a Frisbee instead of hitting a ball. There is a course set up around camp with bells and little hula hoops as goals. The kids all did pretty well and seemed to enjoy it. They can get quite competitive.
After lunch, the kids got to explore their creative side by making tie-dye shirts. Be sure to check the kids luggage for care instructions. There are a couple of things you need to do before you throw them in the wash with all of your good clothes.
We ended the afternoon with fire-making. We go over the basics of how fire works and introduce them to the fire triangle. Then we set them free to collect some firewood. Because of all the rain, we let them swap their wet wood for dry stuff. We teach them how to use a flint and steel and they get to make their own fire. Don't worry, it is all well supervised.
They have had their showers and are eating dinner at the moment. Tonight we will have a movie night. We will get out carpets for the kids to sit on and make popcorn for everyone. It is a good chance for the kids to recharge a bit after a couple of busy days.
That is all for tonight. As always, there is a link to photos below. Tomorrow, I will include a link to all the photos for the whole week, so be sure to check in tomorrow evening.
