Note: We have had a couple of inquiries about the effect of today's earthquake on Camp. We actually didn't feel it at all. Everything is fine here.
The weather has been wonderful today. It is that perfect August weather. Our youth campers wrapped up the final block of their scheduled activity rotations this morning. Here's what today’s lineup looked like:
Red/Pink Team: River Tracing and Tabletop Games
Blue Team: Crafts and Zipline
Orange Team: Tabletop Games and Archery
Green Team: Zipline and Cooperative Games
If you haven’t heard much about Cooperative Games yet, they’re a big part of our activity program. These games are specifically designed to challenge campers to think together and problem-solve as a group. Sometimes, it’s the entire team collaborating to complete a challenge; other times, they’re split into smaller groups to compete in good-natured competition. Either way, the focus is on teamwork, communication, and creative thinking. Each session is customized to suit the age and dynamics of the group, so no two games are quite the same.
Now that our core activity rotations are complete, we’ve moved into the “free choice” portion of the week. This is what I was alluding to in yesterday's blog. Campers are presented with a selection of activities and can pick three they'd like to try—either something completely new or a favorite they'd love to revisit. This week’s free choice options include Pond Play, Archery, Shrimping, Crafts, and Frisbee Golf. Since campers are mixed across teams for these, you’ll want to check both the team folders and the specific activity folders when searching for photos of your child.
Pond play: We have a small cement lined pond her at camp that is just big enough for a group of campers and a counselor to get in and play some fun games. It is awesome on a hot day.
Meanwhile, the Gray Team (our teen campers) had a big adventure today with their extended river tracing trip. This version of the activity is more advanced, taking them through a more challenging section of river that requires a bit more endurance and skill. The teens spent the entire morning on the river and returned just in time for a late lunch. Afterward, they enjoyed a well-earned break during the early afternoon.
To wrap up the afternoon, both youth and teen campers came together for our Water Wide Game, a large-scale, camp-wide event filled with relay races, splashing challenges, and water-based team games. It’s high-energy, silly, and a great way to cool off after a full day in the sun.
Tonight’s evening activity is one of the biggest highlights of the week—Party Night! Counselors transform into carnival hosts and run booths inspired by classic fair games from the U.S. and local favorites from Taiwan’s night markets. Campers can spend their tokens playing games, winning small prizes, and just enjoying the festive vibe. Later in the evening, the area transforms into a dance floor, complete with lights and music. It’s always one of the most talked-about nights at camp—and for good reason!
